2013 Newsletter Pre-Release

Pre-Release Offer on 2013 Vintage

Every year after harvest when winemaking activities have wrapped up and Thanksgiving Open House is behind us, I ask Don to give me his written summary of the vintage from a grower’s perspective. I know it’s not his favorite task. He’d rather be getting dirty and doing active vineyard-winery work, not writing. Although, truth be told he’s a good writer! So, when he supplied me with his most verbose response ever, my eyes widened. Don aptly describes the Elements of 2013. It’s worth a read, but if you just want his finale, here it is. “Looking back, I think of the ’13 season as exciting. (Easy to say now as I’m putting the wine to barrel.) Our perfect summer in the vineyard may have just collided with the perfect storm to create balance and so much more.” Add to this, Karl Klooster’s (Oregon Wine Press) summation made in a January 2014 update to his November 2013 Wine Press article. “Perhaps the most widespread comment to date is how everything displays much understated excellence – acids, pH, tannins, flavor extraction. No big hills or valleys. Smooth sailing.

Now, it’s your turn to evaluate. Our 2013’s are ready to release. We think they display clarity and elegance with a touch of spice that is very pleasant. Read our ’13 Tasting Impressions followed by details on our annual Pre-Release Offer.

Our prettiest wine to date, the ’13 iOTA Pinot Noir exhibits a polished, garnet color in the glass. Brambly fruit and ripe cherries initially greet one’s nose. The palate is juicy, yet refined, with touches of clove, smoke and pebbles consummating in a fusion of ethereal scents on a bed of satin. This special cuvée was aged for ten months in three year air-dried French oak barrels and cellared for an additional twelve months in bottle before release – 757 cases were produced. It is comprised of four clones from six estate blocks: Pommard, Wädenswil, Dijon 777 and 667. Our estate, Pelos Sandberg, lies in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA of Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

iOTA’s 2013 Vintage Pre-Release Offering comes to you based on past ordering, or inclusion on iOTA Cellars mailing list. It will not appear on our website. As with previous offers, there is a six-bottle minimum on 750 ml and no discounts on magnums or older vintages.
